BJJ Player Refuses to Tap, Suffers Gruesome Injury at Mundials

Romulo Barral wanted to win an IBJJF world championship badly. So badly, in fact, that he refused to tap, even as his semifinals opponent Patrick Gaudio locked up a picture-perfect toe hold on him.

Gaudio was no less focused on victory, however, and the result was one of the nastiest injuries ever seen on the tatami. Check it out above, courtesy of FloGrappling.

While many in attendance and on social media were repulsed by the sight, Barral somehow managed to stand up under his own power just seconds later and shrug off his dislocated foot as though it was no big deal:

Barral, remarkably, managed to hold out until the timer sounded, but Gaudio advanced to the final. Despite the loss, Barral's status as Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend only grew after this match.
