Travis Benjamin Says Johnny Manziel Is 'Ready to Come Back' to NFL

Mike ChiariJun 3, 2017

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Travis Benjamin said Thursday that former Cleveland Browns teammate Johnny Manziel is ready to make his NFL comeback.

On NFL Network's Up To The Minute with Andrew Siciliano (h/t NFL.com's Conor Orr), Benjamin said the following regarding Johnny Football's NFL future: "I saw Johnny about a month ago through this (personal trainer) guy we go to in San Diego, and he's looking good. He says he's ready to come back and hopefully he'll get a shot at a team and he'll go in, continue to humble himself and play smart and play good."

Benjamin also offered an endorsement of his former quarterback: "You gonna have a guy that's going to come in ready to prove himself. Ready to get his second chance at what he does best, and hopefully it'll be a good outcome."

Manziel has been working toward an NFL comeback throughout the year, and he told TMZ Sports in January he was working out five or six times per week.

TMZ Sports also reported that Manziel did passing drills with New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. in late May.

The former Heisman Trophy winner hasn't played in the NFL since being released by the Browns following the 2015 season.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported in March that the New Orleans Saints had some interest in Manziel, but a deal was never reached.

In two campaigns with the Browns, Manziel went 2-6 as a starter, throwing for 1,675 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions and rushing for 259 yards and one touchdown.
