Who Is the Greatest Professional Wrestler of All Time?

The Doctor Chris MuellerOct 13, 2009

Many people have their opinion of who is the greatest professional wrestler of all time.

Some say its Ric Flair because of his title record, some say its Hulk Hogan because he was larger than life, some say its Bret Hart due to his amazing skill, some say Shawn Michaels because he can carry a match with anybody, and some even say its The Rock for his ridiculous popularity during his short career.

There are many different factors to being a great pro wrestler. Here are some major things a good pro wrestler needs.

1. Skill: If a guy can't perform and take care of his opponent, the matches look stale and too fake.

2. Finesse: Any wrestler has to be able to take any situation and run with it. Do you think Dusty Rhodes was happy wearing polka dots? No, but he made it work and that's why he's great.

3. Mic ability: if a guy can't talk he usually can't get over, except for the case of guys like Kane who didn't speak for the first few years when he was considerably more popular.

4. Look:. It's not about muscles, outfits or hairdos, it's about swagger. If a guy like Mick Foley can pull off a dirty flannel, then every wrestler should be able to get themselves a good look.

5. Moves: a wrestler who only uses the same moves every match gets boring to watch. A guy who brings new things to the table now and then, like Chris Jericho, is very likely to have a long career.

6. Humility: we've all heard stories of guys getting too high on themselves and ending their career because no one could deal with them. I'm talking to you, Jim Hellwig.

7. Selling: if you can't make a move look like it hurt, no one will believe you and therefore no one will want to watch you.

8. Originality: whenever I see a guy who is new to wrestling, I usually notice if he looks like a previous wrestler or if he is a fresh character. For example, the masterpiece seems eerily similar to the earliest Lex luger character in WWE, The Narcissist.

9. Crowd attraction: obviously, if the fans don't connect with the person, they will never get over.

So let me ask you this, who in your opinion is the greatest wrestler when these things are considered?
