J.R. Smith and his wife, Shirley, arranged a Mother's Day surprise for all moms with a baby in the Cleveland Clinic's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

The couple's daughter, Dakota, was born five months prematurely in January. They shared the situation on Bleacher Report's Uninterrupted:

Understanding the experience of seeing their child treated in NICU, they bought flowers for mothers of patients last weekend. As Shirley explained in her blog post, J.R. thought of the gesture.

"My husband came up with the brilliant idea of getting all of the mothers in the NICU flowers today so we did just that," she wrote. "When the flowers arrived I pushed the cart and Demi placed an arrangement of flowers in every room...it was super special and we both enjoyed it."

Last week, J.R. shared on Instagram that Dakota, born at one pound, now weighs six pounds:

As Shirley explained in her blog post, Mother's Day can be a bittersweet event during such a trying predicament. Along with raising awareness by sharing their struggles, the Smith family went the extra mile for deserving moms.
