Gray, Smith likely interim coach choices

zornramstimeout1.jpgFormer Redskins beat reporter and current reporter for the NFL Network Jason LaCanfora reveals that The Li'l General, Dan Snyder, refused to board the team plane home last night because he was so upset over the loss to the Carolina Panthers.

LaCanfora also reveals that the most likely in-house replacements for Jim Zorn are Special Teams Coach Danny Smith and Secondary Coach Jerry Gray. Smith is often near Zorn on the sidelines when big decisions are made and he is respected on the team and [gulp] by Snyder. Smith's fiery and demonstrative demeanor would be a major change from Zorn, who is quiet, quirky and contemplative. [Try to "stay medium," Jimbo.]

Snyder prevented both of them from interviewing for other jobs with other teams during the offseason, so he obviously holds them in some regard. I would be fine with either choice, but, as I've written many times, it doesn't make a big difference whether one of these guys finishes the season as the coach or if it is someone else or Jim Zorn. The front office of this team, as presently constructed, will never permit the Redskins to be a truly good team for any decent period of time.
