Kolkata showed on Sunday their reputation for high-level bowling has merit, as the team ravaged Bangalore's lineup and held them to just 49 runs. The match was over before the midway point of the second innings, with Colin de Grandhomme taking the final wicket.
As shared by Wilde, there was no indication the fans were in for a historic night after the first innings, with Kolkata scoring just 131 runs all out. At Eden Gardens, a stadium that often favours batting, it was not a great score:
Sunil Narine led the way with 34 from 17, continuing his surprising run with the bat. The West Indies spinner ranks among the best bowlers in the world, but incredibly enough, he didn't deliver a single ball on Sunday.
De Grandhomme, Chris Woakes, Nathan Coulter-Nile and Umesh Yadav attacked Bangalore's batsmen instead, with only the latter failing to take three wickets. The attack was brutal, as Royal Challengers didn't have a single player who could score double-digit runs before losing his wicket.
Per Indian actor Gaurav Kapur, the home team did their fans a big favour:
Kolkata's bowlers hadn't been at their best in this year's IPL, but Sunday's performance was another reminder of just how dominant they can be. Pace was the key in this win, but with spinners like Narine, versatility is an even bigger weapon.
Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiant will meet on Monday.
