4-Star WR Prospect Jordyn Adams Commits to UNC over Clemson and Others

Mike ChiariJul 3, 2017

One of the top wide receiver recruits in the nation is off the board, as wide receiver Jordyn Adams committed to play for North Carolina on Monday at The Opening.

"I really love the coaching staff because they're really family oriented," Adams said of the Tar Heels, per Don Callahan of Scout.com. "Early on, coach Brewer told me from Day One I could come in as a freshman and make a big impact. Also, as a baseball prospect, coach Fox told me the same thing."

UNC head coach Larry Fedora can't mention unsigned recruits by name, but he was clearly happy about the decision:

According to Scout.com, Adams is a 4-star prospect and rated as the No. 121 overall player, No. 22 wideout and No. 1 player at his position from the state of North Carolina.

On April 19, Adams tweeted out his top five schools, and the list was stacked with many of the best programs in the nation:

While North Carolina isn't at the same level as Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Ohio State in terms of football notoriety, it came as little surprise that the Tar Heels were on Adams' radar.

That is due to the fact that his father, Deke Adams, is the defensive line coach at UNC.

Adams is arguably among the best all-around athletes in his class, as he has excelled in football, baseball and basketball.

Callahan noted Adams plans on playing baseball at UNC as well.

Adams previously played quarterback but has focused on wide receiver since transferring to Green Hope High School in Cary, North Carolina.

At 6'2" and 175 lbs., Adams has good size for the receiver position, and his experience under center is something that should help in terms of understanding offenses in college.

Adams likely still has plenty to learn about being a wide receiver, but his pure athleticism makes him an intriguing prospect with superstar potential.

While North Carolina is still trying to establish itself as a true contender in the ACC, UNC is a logical landing spot for Adams due to his father's presence.

The Tar Heels also boasted an excellent offense led by quarterback Mitchell Trubisky in 2016, however, which suggests he may be entering a positive situation provided the Tar Heels can find a reliable replacement under center.
