Jonathan Allen Says He Enjoyed Getting Nick Saban to Yell at Lane Kiffin

Andrew GouldApr 20, 2017

Former Alabama defensive lineman Jonathan Allen punished quarterbacks throughout his four-year stay with the Crimson Tide. Yet he said he took the most pleasure in watching head coach Nick Saban berate former offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin.

The fiery Saban has occasionally taken out his frustrations on Kiffin—whom the team bus left behind before last season's national title game.

Appearing on ESPN's Russillo & Kanell show, via Saturday Down South's Michael Wayne Bratton, Allen playfully said he took more joy in watching Saban yell at Kiffin than making a big play.

"Oh easily watching Saban crush Kiffin," Allen said. "At practice… it was our goal to see how many times we could get Coach Saban to MF Kiffin. I mean that was our goal."

The top NFL draft prospect expanded on the defense's mission to get the school's offensive leader in trouble:

"

It was just during (drills). We would just try to blow it up and just destroy it and kill the offense and then you would know Kiffin's just…gonna get it, after you just blow it up in the backfield. That's probably the most fun we had at Alabama during practice this year, just watching Coach Saban lay into Kiffin.

"

He also referred to Kiffin as the "only guy I've ever seen respond to Coach Saban."

Kiffin, however, plans to take a different approach as FAU's head coach. On Sirius XM College Sports Radio, via Yahoo Sports' Matt Fortuna, he explained his contrasting philosophy.

"That's just not really how I do it," Kiffin said. "I'm not really big on humiliating the assistant coaches in front of everybody. So I just kind of write down notes, and then we go in the staff meetings and explain what we want to get done."
