Richard Sherman Reportedly Skipping Seahawks Workouts, Will Report in May

Tim DanielsApr 18, 2017

Seattle Seahawks superstar defensive back Richard Sherman is not expected at the team's workout Tuesday amid speculation about his future with the organization.

Albert Breer of The MMQB reported Sherman is still planning to report ahead of organized team activities in May, though.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported last week there are no signs a trade is close involving the shutdown cornerback. He noted the Seahawks' asking price is sky high, including a first-round pick, and they aren't expected to drop it:

Seattle hasn't attempted to keep the trade talks secret. Head coach Pete Carroll admitted to reporters last month the front office has engaged in conversations with other teams about Sherman, but he went on to say he didn't expect a deal.

"You either are competing or you are not," he said. "So we have always had to be open to every suggestion that comes along. There have been some teams that have called, and so we have talked about it. But he is extremely important to our football team. I don't see anything happening at all."

Meanwhile, the four-time Pro Bowl selection previously told Breer he didn't have any problem with the Seahawks' exploring their options.

"Very little chance it happens, but both sides are listening," Sherman said. "I honestly don't have much more to say about it than what I've already said. We have a great relationship. … There is a lot of love and respect. There is no bad blood."

All told, the best opportunity to make a blockbuster trade comes at the draft, which kicks off April 27 in Philadelphia, or immediately after if a team wasn't able to fill a roster void with a top prospect.

It makes sense for Sherman to sit out offseason workouts until either that storm of rumors passes or a deal is reached to move him elsewhere. The former seems far more likely at this stage.
