A.J. Hawk Announces Retirement with Packers, Played 9 Seasons in Green Bay

Linebacker A.J. Hawk is retiring from the NFL as a member of the Green Bay Packers, the team that drafted him at No. 5 overall in 2006.    

On Tuesday, Green Bay general manager Ted Thompson announced Hawk told him of his decision to retire with the Packers. 

"The first thing that needs to be said about A.J. Hawk is that he is a good man,” Thompson said. “He was a terrific teammate and a true professional during his career, and we were lucky to have him. A.J. will always be a Packer. We wish the best to him and the entire Hawk family and thank them for all that they gave to the team and the city of Green Bay."

During a January podcast, Hawk told Albert Breer of The MMQB he was going to file retirement paperwork with the NFL. 

The 33-year-old spent the last two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons, though he only played one game with the Falcons in 2016 before they released him in October.

Hawk spent nine years with the Packers and was part of the group that won Super Bowl XLV over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
