Zack Martin's 5th-Year Contract Option Reportedly Picked Up by Cowboys

Mike ChiariApr 18, 2017

The Dallas Cowboys reportedly picked up guard Zack Martin's fifth-year contract option for the 2018 NFL season Tuesday.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, Martin will make $9.341 million in 2018 unless the two sides agree to a long-term deal before then. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, citing NFL Players Association records, confirmed the move.

Dallas selected Martin with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2014 draft out of Notre Dame, and he hasn't disappointed.

The 26-year-old has made the Pro Bowl in each of his three NFL seasons, and he was a first-team All-Pro in both 2014 and 2016.

Martin has started all 48 regular-season games at right guard for the Cowboys over the past three years, and he is a key cog in what is widely considered the NFL's premier offensive line.

Dallas ranked second in rushing yards per game last season, as Martin helped pave the way for rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott and protected 2016 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Dak Prescott.

The Cowboys offensive line has experienced some level of upheaval this offseason with guard Ronald Leary leaving in free agency and tackle Doug Free retiring, which made retaining Martin an even bigger priority.
