Chelsea Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Diego Costa, Fresh Youri Tielemans Talk

Matt JonesApr 16, 2017

Chelsea are reportedly ready to cash in on Diego Costa this summer once they have struck a deal for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

According to Neil Fissler of the Sunday Express, Chinese Super League side Tianjin Quanjian, who made a move for Costa in the January transfer window, are still interested in the Blues man and are ready to offer a whopping £90 million to sign the 28-year-old.

"Chelsea will only give their blessing to him leaving Stamford Bridge when they complete the signing of [Morata]," Fissler noted, with Los Blancos said to value the Spain international at around £50 million.

Costa started the season in sensational form, although since a reported falling-out with manager Antonio Conte in January over the club's reluctance to sell him, he has struggled to find his best, per Squawka Football:

However, the forward is the kind of player who always has a say on Premier League games. Even if he isn't sticking chances away, the striker is pinning defenders, running the channels and proving to be a general nuisance to the opposition.

If he were to depart, finding someone to replace those gritty attributes would be a challenge. Morata could be the man to do so.

The Spain international, like Costa, is a bundle of energy up top. While he may not be as physical as the Blues striker, Morata has a guile to his game too, and his finishing continues to improve. Per Real Madrid TV's Phil Kitromilides, when he's been on the pitch this season, he's been ruthless:

Although Costa is out of form, selling him would be a massive decision given the role he's played for Conte's side this season.

The Blues should be chasing Morata nonetheless. He's struggling to usurp Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo at the Santiago Bernabeu and needs to find a club that can tap into his talent more frequently. Chelsea and Conte could do that.

Chelsea Eye Youri Tielemans

According to Paul Brown of the Sunday Express, Chelsea are hoping to beat Manchester United to the signing of Anderlecht midfielder Youri Tielemans.

Brown's piece suggested that as well as the two Premier League sides, Juventus, Inter Milan, AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain have all been scouting the Belgium international.

Despite his tender years, Tielemans is a familiar name to football supporters, as he's been impressing for Anderlecht from a very young age. Indeed, as noted by Brown, the 19-year-old even captained his side against the Red Devils in their recent UEFA Europa League meeting.

Here's a glimpse into why so many grand names of European football are trying to snap up the teenager:

All the attributes are there for Tielemans. Technically, he's a fantastic operator, boasting exceptional concentration levels and awareness for one so young. But it feels as though a summer switch would help him kick on to another level.

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez suggested as much on BT Sport, although he warned the youngster that minutes are the most important factor (h/t Kristof Terreur of Het Laatste Nieuws):

With N'Golo Kante, Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas so impressive in midfield, that's not something Tielemans would necessarily get at Chelsea. So perhaps a club of a smaller profile where there is less pressure to deliver would be an ideal next step for the youngster.

Even so, Conte has helped players improve with the Blues, and if Tielemans did decide his future should be at Stamford Bridge, then he'd undoubtedly be in safe hands.
