Dana White: A New Reason to Appreciate the UFC President

Dorothy WillisJun 3, 2008

After watching the Elite XC and WEC shows back-to-back, I realized that there is a new reason to appreciate Dana White, who when making decisions concerning the UFC sticks to his core beliefs.

White does not believe that Kevin Ferguson is a superior force in the sport of mixed martial arts. So there is no way that Kevin will ever fight for the UFC.

He does not believe in cross-promotion of fighters between MMA organizations.  Thus, even though people enjoy fantasizing about Kevin fighting against particular UFC fighters, “it just ain't gonna happen” in Dana White's lifetime.

White puts on the ultimate MMA events.  They are powerful and compelling to watch, but forgo the glamour and glitz that Elite XC displayed for its CBS debut. Therefore, MMA fans do not have to fear sequined robes, unwholesome looking "dancers” with no appreciable dancing skills, booty shaking fighters with special effects shooting as they “dance,” or rappers looking like street thugs introducing fighters.

The gladiator theme may be considered stark by comparison, but it is powerful, has beautiful lighting effects and varied music, which may include rap as a fighter's choice of entrance music, but is not predominantly rap.

Sometimes the "flashbacks" of previous fights and expository education about the fighters gets a little repetitious. That is less objectionable than spending the first 20 minutes reviewing the sport without any fighting action, as is the way the EXC show began— flat, very flat and not engaging.

Remarks have been made about the commentators of UFC, but other than having  "Goldie" talk excessively at times, it’s believed that he and Rogan are still the best. Gus Johnson was much better than that carnival barker he commented alongside.

Basically, by not allowing cross-promotions and keeping control, White protects his fighters from being in circus-like programs with the glitz of WWE and/or a BET program with rappers on board.

At any rate, White does put on great MMA productions that draw many viewers in spite of being costly on PPV, and does not treat the fighters like circus performers or feed the audience sparkles and pap.  Viewers deserve high standards in sports entertainment and White on behalf of Zuffa provides it consistently.

Thank you Dana.  I am beginning to appreciate your core values.
