Bayern Munich Transfer News: Lorenzo Insigne, Federico Bernardeschi Rumours

Matt JonesApr 15, 2017

Reported Bayern Munich target Lorenzo Insigne is said to be close to agreeing a new five-year contract at Napoli.

As relayed by Football Italia, reports from Rai Sport, Corriere dello Sport and Tuttosport have all suggested that the forward is set to sign on until 2022, ending speculation over his future. The Italian's deal at the San Paolo was set to run out in 2018.

Bayern had been ready to make a summer move for Insigne, according to Ii Mattino (h/t Sky Sports), while the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool have also been linked with the 25-year-old.

Insigne has been in magnificent form for Maurizio Sarri's Napoli team this term, excelling on the left of a front three alongside Dries Mertens and Jose Callejon.

Here's what he's capable of:

According to Football Italia, the delay over an extension for Insigne was due to a dispute over image rights and a release clause, with Partenopei president Aurelio de Laurentiis said to be keen to include a new €100 million (£85 million) trigger fee.

However, Insigne's new deal will not include such a clause, and that's something that'll delight the club's supporters. After all, they will be cherishing seeing a Neapolitan thrive in such an enthralling team.

Per WhoScored.com, he's enjoying his finest goalscoring season:

It's easy to see why a club of Bayern's calibre would be interested in bringing him in. Insigne is such a threat on the left flank, able to drift into pockets, beat defenders with his close control and burst through gaps with his pace. As is evident by the aforementioned numbers, he's a calm finisher too.

For Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti, his acquisition would have been a coup, although with Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Douglas Costa and Kingsley Coman on the club's books, they aren't short of quality in the wide areas.

PSG in for Federico Bernardeschi

According to reports in France relayed by Football Italia, Bayern Munich will be rivalled by Paris Saint-Germain in the race for Fiorentina star Federico Bernardeschi.

It's suggested in the piece that Inter Milan, Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Arsenal and Barcelona have all also been credited with an interest in the versatile Italian.

According to Sport Bild (h/t Sky Sports), Bernardeschi is a key target for the Bavarians, alongside PSG man Marco Verratti and Bayer Leverkusen youngster Benjamin Henrichs.

Here's a look at why the Fiorentina midfielder would be such an exciting purchase:

Bernardeschi has been the standout man for Fiorentina since breaking into the first team, thriving in a number of different positions for La Viola. It's that blend of versatility and technical quality that makes him one of the most exciting prospects in Italian football.

When he is deployed in a more advanced position, he can conjure decisive moments in the final third, as noted by Squawka Football earlier this season:

Having come through the Fiorentina academy, the decision to leave in the summer would be a big one for the 23-year-old. Although with so many elite sides said to be interested, it'd be a shock if a deal wasn't done.

PSG have a surfeit of options in the attacking-midfield positions, with the likes of Julian Draxler, Javier Pastore, Angel Di Maria, Goncalo Guedes, Hatem Ben Arfa and Lucas Moura all battling for a starting spot. Bayern, especially with Ancelotti at the helm, would arguably be a wiser choice for Bernardeschi at this time.
