Adrian Peterson Reportedly Leaves Saints Without Contract, Visit 'Went Well'

Free-agent running back Adrian Peterson visited the New Orleans Saints, but he left the Big Easy on Tuesday without a contract, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

However, Rapoport noted the "visit went well" and that "the two sides will keep talking." On Wednesday, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reported the visit did not include a workout.

Peterson has been looking for a new gig ever since the Minnesota Vikings declined his option for the 2017 season, and the Saints look like a logical fit on paper.

Although New Orleans has Mark Ingram in tow as its No. 1 running back, Peterson would be a logical replacement for former backup Tim Hightower, who recently signed with the San Francisco 49ers.

The New England Patriots have also expressed interest in Peterson. According to ESPN.com's Mike Reiss, the Patriots put Peterson through tests and drills when he visited Foxborough, Massachusetts. But as was the case with the Saints, Peterson left without a deal.

Peterson, 32, appeared in just three games last season due to a torn lateral meniscus in his right knee.
