Recap
Deepak Chahar sent Aditya Tare packing early on. Things got better for the Supergiant when Imran Tahir bowled Sam Billings to break up Delhi's opening partnership.
The setbacks meant the Daredevils were setting a steady, if not spectacular pace midway through their innings:
One batsman who was doing his bit at the wicket for Delhi was Samson. He soon hit his way to a half-century to account for most of the Daredevils' scoring.
As ESPNCricinfo noted, Samson had made a fast start to his innings:
Samson wasn't the only Daredevils batsman to thrive, though. Rishabh Pant sent two balls over the boundary for 12 runs during the 12th over.
However, former Daredevils bowler Tahir was still in fine form for the Supergiant. His bowling yielded just four runs in the 13th over as Delhi became stuck on 108. Things got worse for the Daredevils when Pant's wicket fell after he was run out.
Typically, it was Samson who provided the inspiration for Delhi by collecting three sixes and a four over the next 12 balls. The form pushed him close to a century and took the Daredevils past 160.
Yet fortune proved fickle for Samson once he finally put a ton on the board:
Even so, India international cricketer Harbhajan Singh applauded Samson's effort and potential:
Losing the Samson-Pant partnership appeared a fatal blow for Delhi until Morris produced some late heroics. He took two fours and a six off Adam Zampa before taking two sixes and a pair of fours off Ben Stokes to push the Daredevils past a second century:
Morris' fantastic scoring was put into an appropriate context by ESPNCricinfo:
Having been set 205 to chase, the Supergiant innings quickly unravelled. An early Sampson catch set the tone for a series of swift departures from the wicket.
In fact, Rising Pune's ranks were soon halved:
Stuck on 68/5, Rajat Bhatia smashed the first six for Rising Pune in the 10th over. MS Dhoni quickly followed suit as the Supergiant pair chased an improbable comeback.
Unfortunately, the Bhatia-Dhoni partnership proved short-lived when the latter was caught out smartingly by Karun Nair after a testing delivery from Amit Mishra.
Bhatia went when caught by Morris after another teasing delivery from Mishra. Dhoni and Bhatia had improved Pune's tally by just 11 runs.
In the end, Rising Pune were bowled out on 108 at the start of the 16th over to condemn them to a humbling defeat.
Sunrisers Hyderabad can create a gap at the top if they beat the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. A Sunrisers win would pile the pressure on the Kings XI Punjab ahead of Thursday's meeting with the fourth-placed Kolkata Knight Riders.
