Chelsea Transfer News: Diego Costa Suggests He Is Unhappy in London, Top Rumours

Christopher SimpsonApr 10, 2017

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has hinted that while he is content at the club, he is not enjoying living in London.

Per The Mirror's Darren Lewis, he said:

"

I am happy at Chelsea, I am not necessarily saying that I am happy with my life in London. But that is something totally different. It has nothing to do with it.

I have another two years on my contract. I am always very honest with those close to me. I tell them that I am very happy at Chelsea.

According to Lewis, Costa was the subject of interest from Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian in January, and the outfit are "expected to return this summer."

Costa enjoyed a fine first half of the season and has 17 Premier League goals to his name this term, but only three have come in 2017.

His campaign has somewhat mirrored his first year at Stamford Bridge, where he scored the majority of his goals in the first half of the season—albeit he missed nine matches through injury and suspension in the second half.

It's also the opposite of last year, where he netted just three times in the league before Christmas but scored nine after.

Indeed, aside from his final season at Atletico Madrid, Costa has found it difficult to sustain a run of goalscoring form over an entire campaign.

Football journalists Dan Levene and Liam Twomey noted his struggles during Chelsea's 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday:

However, per Levene, Blues boss Antonio Conte was pleased:

The striker did force an own goal from Adam Smith when his scuffed effort deflected in off the Cherries man.

While the Spain international may struggle to find the net consistently over the course of a whole season, he's an important part of the Chelsea side and one they will do well to keep.

Atletico and Chelsea are the only clubs he's spent more than one season at, though, so it's possible he has trouble settling—while he may be happy with the Blues, if he's unhappy in London, it could tempt him into leaving.

If he does leave, Chelsea might hope to replace him with Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez, but according to Chilean outlet Radio Cooperativa (h/t Metro) he is "very close" to linking up with Pep Guardiola again at Manchester City.

The star has racked up 22 goals and 18 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions this season, and while he's not as aggressive as Costa, it's clear they share a similar desire to win.

Sanchez recently showed off his skills as he played a part in the buildup to Theo Walcott's goal against West Ham United in Arsenal's 3-0 win, per the Gunners:

The Chilean is yet to sign a new deal at the Emirates Stadium, and as such, he will have just one year left on his deal this summer.

Arsenal will be loath to let him join either Chelsea or City, but he'd be a tremendous capture for either—with his future up in the air, both sides could well look to capitalise.
