Hawkes finished ahead of nearest competitor Ollie Garrod, while Jon Pepper—who was favourite to win the race—came third in fine weather conditions.
Pepper was comfortably leading the race at the halfway point and was still a minute ahead of the field six miles later, only to tire and be reeled in and eventually surpassed by Hawkes and Garrod.
The Brighton Marathon relayed the events as Hawkes closed the gap:
Despite slowing through the final six miles, Pepper mustered the energy to produce a sprint finish to secure his place on the podium.
The event also captured Davies' winning moment:
Hayley Mann and Helen Buller rounded out the women's top three.
