Masters Tournament 2017: Mobile Updates for Sunday Leaderboard Scores

Adam WellsApr 9, 2017

After three days and 54 holes, the 2017 Masters will come to a conclusion on Sunday with Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia looking to take home the green jacket as they tee it up tied for the lead at six under par.

Saturday's third round started with a quartet of players tied for the lead. The third round didn't do much to provide any separation for the leaders, with four players within two shots of Rose and Garcia.

Even though he's not in the lead entering the final round, Jordan Spieth is the sleeping giant ready to steal the tournament after a 75 on Thursday left him 10 shots off the pace. He has shot seven under par over his last 36 holes to enter Sunday at four-under par, two shots off the lead.

Per Oliver Brown of the Daily Telegraph, Spieth laid out his intentions for the final round:

As impressive as Spieth was in the third round, though, Justin Rose actually posted the low score of the day. The 2013 U.S. Open champion fired a 67 that dropped his score to six under par.

Per Justin Ray of the Golf Channel, Rose has been money in the third round of majors for the last three years:

Yet for all of his Saturday dominance, Rose has no major titles during that span to show for it. He has finished in the top 10 four different times at majors since 2015, including tied for second at the Masters two years ago.

Rose's fourth-round scoring average of 69.86 this season ranks 55th on the PGA Tour, per PGATour.com. That would certainly be a good score at Augusta if he can get there, but the amount of competition around him means he will need to do better than that to win.

Taking a more wide-ranging view, as Justin Ray of the Golf Channel did, Saturday and Sunday at majors have been Rose's time to shine:

Garcia will be the sentimental favorite in the final round. The 37-year-old stormed onto the PGA Tour scene in 1999 when he finished one shot behind Tiger Woods at the PGA Championship and has been chasing a major ever since.

Per PGA Tour Media, one reason Garcia and Rose will start from the front of the pack on Sunday is their inability to avoid bad rounds:

Augusta hasn't been a course that lends itself to consistency this year, so what Garcia and Rose have been able to figure out bodes well for both of them.

Kelly Tilghman of the Golf Channel also pointed out why a win for Garcia on Sunday would have additional significance:

Garcia has not made a secret of his admiration and respect for Seve Ballesteros, who was the first European player to win the Masters in 1980.

"Everyone knows how much Seve means to everyone in Spanish golf," Garcia said, per Neil McLeman of the Mirror. "We all know it would have been his birthday on Sunday. I was a big fan of hisI still am. He had an aura. His passing still makes me sad. I miss him very much."

Garcia has endured his share of trials and tribulations in his career. He took a break from competition in 2010 that helped turn things around. The Spanish star has seven top-10 finishes at majors since 2011, including two last year.

There is going to be one major when Garcia finally puts it all together. He's been dynamite through three rounds at Augusta and is poised for his moment in the spotlight on the grandest stage golf has to offer.
