Cancer and Sports Part 14 Of Many (McNabb Is Back )
Welcome Back Donovan!
McNabb is back and Jeff is now bald (also coated in a post chemo rash). But...his favorite QB is back in a big way and at half time earned him 29 fantasy points! This Sunday is different than last - we are yelling at the TV again...all checking our matches and I am doing terribly LOL. Jeff's team is smokin' and for the time being he does not itch (even if he does, he is feeling only the thrill of victory). This is why I am writing on this blog, not the usual illness blogs of life style blogs. Sports are magic in this house!
Yesterday while Penn State was winning, I was shaving Jeff's head. The game made the task a little easier. Jeff also broke out in a horrible rash all over his torso and in some unmentionable parts. Again, while PSU was playing he felt grand, after the game and dinner...he itched. The Phillies' game was cancelled so there was nothing to really hold his interest. St. Louis losing was not what he wanted. His symptoms really ebb and flow with the games. There is no greater distraction. He is the ultimate fan and a good game gives him a boost.
Fortunately, the Eagles are doing well enough to keep him glued to the TV. Phillies play very late tonight so he gets all day with football and no flipping of channels. Watching him watch the TV brings real tears to my eyes. There is my newly bald husband with this horrible rash alive and well, checking scores, doing what he does on any normal Sunday when just a week ago he was literally rimming the ring. As long as there is a good game he is good!
I will take a bald and itchy fanatic over a gorgeous non sports fan any day. Life is interesting when my cancer patient is rooting for the home team! Let's go Philly teams - we are indeed winning one for the Gipper this week!
