Pepe Suffers Rib Injury in Draw vs. Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid have been dealt an injury blow ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich after the club confirmed Pepe has fractured two of his ribs.

Goal reported the experienced defender sustained the injuries during the La Liga clash with Atletico Madrid on Saturday, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

A club statement said: "After the examinations carried out today on Pepe at the Sanitas La Moraleja University Hospital, he has been diagnosed with fractures in seventh and eighth ribs on the left side."

Los Blancos' draw with their local rivals at the Santiago Bernabeu dented Real's chances of lifting the league championship ahead of Barcelona.

The Portugal international was coach Zinedine Zidane's goal hero before Antoine Griezmann grabbed a late equaliser.

Fellow defender Raphael Varane remains on the sidelines with injury, per Goal, causing a headache for Zidane before his team face Bayern in Europe's biggest competition.
