Grizzlies Clinch 7th Seed in West, Will Face Spurs in 1st Round of NBA Playoffs
The Memphis Grizzlies will play the San Antonio Spurs in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year.
Memphis beat the New York Knicks 101-88 Friday, and the team announced it clinched the Western Conference's No. 7 seed and will square off with the second-seeded Spurs.
The Grizzlies moved to 43-37 on the season with the win. Mike Conley led the way with 31 points, while Marc Gasol (16 points and 10 rebounds) added a double-double down low.
Attention will soon turn to the impending showdown with the Spurs now that Memphis' seed is set. The two teams split their four games in 2016-17, with the home team winning every contest, so San Antonio's home-court advantage in the postseason could prove crucial.
Memphis has Conley healthy again after he missed time with a back injury and will need his veteran leadership along with the frontcourt combination of Zach Randolph and Gasol to have any chance against the mighty Spurs, who were 60-18 entering play Friday and feature MVP candidate Kawhi Leonard.
San Antonio swept Memphis in the first round of last year's playoffs.
