Masters 2017: Live Updates for Leaderboard Scores on Thursday

Gianni VerschuerenApr 6, 2017

Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and the rest of the field kick off the 2017 Masters tournament on Thursday, with the first round of the prestigious event taking place at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia.

Johnson was the favourite before suffering an injury, and the field is remarkably deep this year, with plenty of dangerous outsiders, rising stars and a few veterans all sporting solid odds to do some damage.

Here's a look at the live leaderboard:

Jordan Spieth13-2
Rory McIlroy7-1
Dustin Johnson9-1
Jason Day16-1
Rickie Fowler16-1
Hideki Matsuyama18-1
Jon Rahm20-1

Punters who placed their bet on the in-form Johnson in the last week received some unpleasant news ahead of the first day of competition, as reports emerged the World No. 1 was a doubt to play due to a freak injury.

The 32-year-old, who has already won three tournaments this year, hurt his back falling down some stairs.

Per the Associated Press (for the PGA's official website), his manager David Winkle explained what happened: "He landed very hard on his lower back and is now resting, although quite uncomfortably. He has been advised to remain immobile and begin a regimen of anti-inflammatory medication and icing, with the hope of being able to play tomorrow."

The injury has somewhat thrown the tournament on its head. Before, Johnson was seen as the clear favourite, despite the remarkable depth of the field.

Spieth has performed well at the Masters the last three years, even if plenty of fans will never forget the images of his meltdown in 2016. The youngster will be determined to do better this year, and per the oddsmakers, he's the new favourite after Johnson's tumble.

As shared by Bleacher Report, the stats look good for the 23-year-old heading into the tournament:

McIlroy's 2017 season has been a fairly quiet one so far due to an injury that caused the Northern Irishman to miss some time, but he's played some solid golf in the last few weeks. The 27-year-old is always a threat, especially when his short game is clicking.

Per Jay Coffin of the Golf Channel, he's put in the work ahead of the Masters:

Justin Rose and Jason Day come in with solid odds after a series of fine performances at major tournaments. It wasn't sure whether Day would actually play after an emotional week, but as shared by GolfAustraliaMag, he got his tournament started earlier on Thursday―and did so in fine fashion:

Rising star Jon Rahm will start in the same group as McIlroy, with Japan's Hideto Tanihara joining the two.
