Australian superstar Smith leads the total scoring for the IPL after leading Pune to a close win over Mumbai.
The captain appeared comfortable at the crease and hit seven fours and three sixes on his way to success.
Cricket journalist Arjun Bhardwaj highlighted Smith's effort:
According to ESPN Cricinfo, Mumbai's Rohit Sharma tipped his hat to the Aussie's opening innings at the tournament.
"I thought Smith batted really well," said Sharma. "The kind of form he is in, he just took off from where he left. The fielding didn't really help us. This is our first game and there is a lot of learning from this."
Sunrisers Hyderabad's Yuvraj Singh is Smith's closest challenger for top run-scorer and remains 22 runs behind the prolific hitman.
