Joseph ZuckerApr 6, 2017

Defense attorneys for former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez rested their case in Hernandez's double-murder trial Wednesday, the Associated Press (via ESPN.com) reported.

Prosecutors charged Hernandez in 2014 with the 2012 deaths of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado.

Prosecutors allege de Abreu bumped into Hernandez at a Boston nightclub, according to the AP (via the Guardian). Later, Hernandez saw de Abreu and Furtado leaving the club and followed their car to a stoplight and allegedly fired at least five shots into the vehicle.

The prosecution's star witness, Alexander Bradley, testified in March he was driving the car as he and Hernandez drove around the club looking for de Abreu, per CNN's Eric Levenson. He corroborated the prosecution's account of events.

In 2015, a jury found Hernandez guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Odin Lloyd, a charge that carried a mandatory life sentence in prison.
