Veteran RB Brandon Bolden Signs New Contract with New England Patriots

The New England Patriots officially re-signed unrestricted free-agent running back Brandon Bolden, the team announced on Wednesday. 

Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed. 

Bolden joined the Patriots in 2012 as an undrafted free agent out of Ole Miss, and he's served as a supplementary contributor out of the backfield during his five-year span with the team. 

All told, Bolden has tallied 203 carries for 845 yards and six touchdowns to go along with 46 receptions for 366 yards and two scores as a member of the Patriots. 

More importantly, Bolden has operated as a key member of New England's special teams. According to NESN.com's Doug Kyed, Bolden ranked fifth among all players on the defending champs with 264 special teams snaps last season. 

"He plays on all four downs," Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said in 2015, per NESN.com's Nicholas Goss. "He's a good early-down back, he's a good third-down back and he's a good fourth-down back. [He's] one of our best special teams players, certainly one of our best offensive special teams players, along with [Matthew] Slater."

Bolden likely won't see a big workload with Dion Lewis, James White and Rex Burkhead all in tow, but he should continue to be a consistent presence on special teams and offer the Pats some insurance in the event they suffer injuries in the backfield as the 2017 season progresses.
