Mets Fan Flips Out over NJ Transit Issues on Opening Day

Andrew GouldApr 4, 2017

A packed house watched the New York Mets open their 2017 season with a 6-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Yet public transportation delays made Monday's trek to Citi Field difficult for some fans.

According to an NBC New York 4 report, an NJ Transit derailment at New York Penn Station caused massive delays and cancellations. The scene caused four people to endure minor injuries.

The added traffic of Mets fans traveling to Queens compounded these issues. One fan in particular, Frank Fleming, voiced his displeasure.

"New Jersey transit if the absolute worst," he screamed to an NBC reporter (via Sports Illustrated). "I'm not going to get to my game now because they are incompetent."

Rather than laughing, let's have some empathy for the man. He has probably spent weeks, even months, anticipating his Opening Day visit to Flushing to watch Noah Syndergaard fire 100 mph heaters.

As a Mets fan, he has the added stress of early injuries to David Wright (shoulder) and Steven Matz (elbow). Plus, he must process the organization's failure to play Michael Conforto—a promising young outfielder capable of becoming the team's second-best hitter behind Yoenis Cespedes.

Instead of channeling these worries at the ballpark on a beautiful day, Fleming was stuck in a congested train station desperately awaiting his escape.
