Leganes vs. Real Madrid: Preview, Live Stream, TV Info

Rob BlanchetteApr 3, 2017

Real Madrid attempt to defend their lead at the top of La Liga as they travel to Leganes on Wednesday.

The Galacticos hold a two-point advantage over second-placed Barcelona, and they cannot afford a slip on their short trip to the outskirts of the capital city.

The Cucumber Growers also need the points and remain one place above the relegation zone. However, they currently are five points clear of the bottom three.

As the weeks evaporate away toward the end of the season, Los Blancos remain in control of Spain's top division.

Real are only two points ahead of the reigning champions, but they will feel comfortable as frontrunners in April.

Leganes welcome the leaders to their tiny Estadio Municipal de Butarque, with the hosts out of form and luck.

Their focus will be to maintain the five-point gap between themselves and Sporting Gijon, but they will not expect to be able to stop a Real side who have netted 74 goals in La Liga this season.

MADRID, SPAIN - NOVEMBER 06: Head coach Asier Garitano (l) of Deportivo Leganes talks to Real Madrid's coach Zinedine Zidane prior to the La Liga match between Real Madrid and Deportivo Leganes at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu on 06 November 2016 in Madri

Javier Martin of AS reported Leganes coach Asier Garitano has given his squad two days off before the visit of their illustrious near-neighbours, and his selection will train in private as he "keeps his cards close to his chest."

Nabil El Zhar remains a doubt for the hosts after suffering from illness, per Martin, restricting Garitano's attacking options.

Madrid were easy winners when the minnows visited the Bernabeu Stadium last November in the league, as Real won 3-0 with a brace from Gareth Bale and goal from Alvaro Morata.

This should be an easy night's work for manager Zinedine Zidane's selection, but Los Blancos will be aware that complacency must not sneak into their football in the coming weeks.

On paper, Leganes offer no challenge to Real, but the visitors must put their hosts away with little fuss or bluster at the Butarque.
