Sevilla travel to Barcelona on Wednesday as they attempt to rescue their season after falling out of contention in the La Liga title race.

Barca remain only two points behind leaders Real Madrid, but Jorge Sampaoli's men have slipped to fourth after a run of poor form.

Madrid travel to relegation-threatened Leganes and will expect to win, putting pressure on the Calatan giants to claim three points.

After crashing out of the UEFA Champions League, Sevilla have combusted, and their loss of form has been spectacular.

Key players have quickly gone off the boil after the team impressed before the new year.

Coach Sampaoli had carved himself a niche as one of the continent's finest coaches during his tenure in Andalucia, but his team are now 10 points from the summit.

Sampaoli was critical of his attack as he watched his side concede more points after a goalless draw against Sporting Gijon at the weekend, per Squawka News:

The match against Barca could be an audition for the Sevilla manager after he hinted he would like to replace the outgoing Luis Enrique in the summer.

According to ESPN FC, the Chilean "is rumoured to be on the shortlist" to be the next Blaugrana head coach.

Sampaoli told outlet Diario Ole (h/t ESPN FC) he desires to manage Lionel Messi.

"

My dream is to be in charge of Messi to see him every day from the touchline.

It's a unique dream to see Messi so close up, always.

The form Messi is in is incredible. Who wouldn't like to be in charge of him? If you help a determining player be happy, you have 95 percent of the game sorted.

These are like the days in which Maradona was good. It's very difficult for a team, when Leo is good, to lose.

Enrique is hoping to leave the club with silverware under his arm, and the chance to regain the La Liga crown remains a possibility.

According to Sky Sports, Barca have won five of their past six in all competitions, scoring four or more in each victory.

In stark contrast, Sevilla have registered just one win in their last six in all competitions, beating Athletic Bilbao 1-0 in La Liga on March 2.

Several weeks ago this contest would have been perceived to be an even game, but Sevilla will pose little threat in their current form.

They are devoid of confidence, and Samir Nasri has regressed after a fantastic run of consistency earlier in the season.

Barca should take the points, and Sampaoli's chances of being the boss at the Camp Nou will further decrease.
