Luis Enrique Says Neymar Is a 'Beast' After Forward Scores 100th Barcelona Goal

Christopher SimpsonApr 3, 2017

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique has described Neymar as a "beast" and revealed his hope he will go on to score 1,000 goals for the club after he scored his 100th on Sunday.

Per Goal's Sacha Pisani, Luis Enrique said:

"

He has numbers [which show he is] a beast of a footballer.

He's one of the most unbalancing players in the world [for opposition defences] and his signing by this club was a great decision.

I hope he scores another 900 goals, so we can keep seeing him at Barcelona for many more years.

Neymar bagged the landmark goal as he wrapped up a 4-1 win over Granada.

The Brazilian achieved the landmark in injury time when he converted Paco Alcacer's cross from close range:

Per AS, he was delighted to have done so: "I am happy to have scored my 100th goal and I dedicate it to my team-mates who always help me. ... I can't pick a goal out from the 100—they've all been important but the best one was probably my first one—in the Supercup."

Barcelona celebrated the milestone with a selection of his best goals, while Squawka Football broke down how they were scored and in which competitions:

The goal was no less than the 25-year-old deserved for his excellent performance at Los Carmenes as he ran Granada's defence ragged.

As well as his goal, Neymar provided one of the highlights of the match when he embarked on a sensational solo dribble after winning possession in his own third, which ultimately resulted in him winning a free-kick in Granada's half.

ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan was impressed:

Neymar has enjoyed an outstanding season and the goal took his tally to 15 in all competitions for the campaign, and he's also produced 23 assists.

Per AS, Neymar is the 18th player to reach a century of goals for the Catalan giants and did so in 177 games, compared with 120 for Luis Suarez and 188 for Lionel Messi.

La Liga writer Andrew Gaffney believes he is now showing himself to be truly worthy of the Argentinian's crown:

Suarez is similarly important to Barca but is six months older than Messi, whereas Neymar has the advantage of age and therefore looks set to be the club's new talisman when their No. 10 ages and retires.

The forward has been tremendous for Barcelona since his arrival in 2013 and proven he can consistently make incisive, match-winning contributions as well as display his technical skill and flair.

If he does take Messi's mantle one day, there will be plenty more goals to come.
