Stephen Curry Drops 42 Points Behind 9 Three-Pointers in Warriors Win vs Wizards

Scott PolacekApr 2, 2017

While the NBA world debates whether Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Kawhi Leonard or even LeBron James should be MVP this season, the two-time reigning award winner reminded everyone of his own brilliance Sunday.

Stephen Curry led the Golden State Warriors to a 139-115 victory over the Washington Wizards with 42 points and eight assists behind 15-of-22 shooting from the field.

In vintage Curry form, he drilled nine three-pointers on the evening and was virtually unguardable on the outside. He also made Marcin Gortat look downright silly on one of them:

The win moved Golden State to 63-14 and maintained its commanding 3.5-game lead over the San Antonio Spurs for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference with just five games remaining.

Curry reached the 300-three mark for the second straight season during his team's 63rd victory. He also notched his 31st game with at least eight three-pointers, and ESPN Stats & Info put each stat into perspective:

The Davidson product also did some damage on the inside of the arc in acrobatic fashion:

It wasn't just the Curry show Sunday, as Klay Thompson scored 23 points, and Draymond Green tallied a triple-double with 11 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds.

Golden State has now won 11 games in a row and is hitting its stride with the playoffs rapidly approaching. What's more, Kevin Durant is still out with injury and figures to return, which will make this loaded roster all the more formidable as it chases its second title in three years.

If Curry plays like he did Sunday throughout the postseason, the Warriors will be nearly impossible to beat in a seven-game series.
