WWE WrestleMania 33 Results: Most Memorable Moments from Epic Event

Chris RolingApr 2, 2017

WWE didn't pull any punches at Sunday's WrestleMania 33.

Fans who wanted classic matches got it. Ditto for rounding off epic storylines. Clashes between legendary titans entertained, and representatives of different generations put on shows fans will never forget. There was even notable celebrity involvement and the necessary major return.

The Streak can't fall every year, nor can Seth Rollins pull off a heist for the ages. But Sunday's event in Orlando had its moments that will live on forever, headlined by the following.

Gronk Invades WWE

Celebrity appearances at WrestleMania can be hit or miss.

It's hard to miss with Rob Gronkowski.

The New England Patriots tight end has been an obvious fit for a WWE ring since his NFL debut—a friendship with Mojo Rawley finally got him there.

Ringside, Gronkowski found himself involved in some trash talk with Jinder Mahal before taking things into his own hands:

Gronk, running interference, helped propel Mojo Rawley to the Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy, but more importantly, it figures to be looked back upon as the beginning of a fruitful relationship between the WWE and the man known as Gronk.

The Hardy Brothers Return

This was only a matter of time, right?

Matt Hardy returning to WWE and bringing his brother Jeff along for the ride was easily one of the most anticipated wrestling events of the last few years or more after the man known as "Broken" Matt Hardy blew up in other promotions.

But the Hardy brothers didn't just return—they bested the top tag teams on Raw to steal the WWE Tag Team titles:

It's only fitting the return of legends would buck the WrestleMania trend of ending storylines by shaking up WWE's flagship program more than most would have dared guess going into Sunday.

Where the Hardy brothers take Raw unfolds Monday.

Cena Pops the Question

It finally happened.

The biggest storyline on Total Divas blended television with reality in a way only WWE can, culminating in John Cena getting down on one knee and asking Nikki Bella to marry him after the two defeated The Miz and Maryse.

Cena, in easily the most important promo of his career, delivered as always:

It's only right Cena shared this moment with WWE fans on the sport's biggest stage. He is WWE, so his finally deciding to pop the question to Nikki Bella couldn't happen anywhere else.

Brock Lesnar Conquers the Hero

For months, Paul Heyman has boasted to any city that would have him and viewers worldwide that his client Brock Lesnar would slay his personal demons and shut down Goldberg's epic run.

He was right.

It wasn't easy, but Lesnar survived an early barrage from Goldberg, even suffering a spear through a barricade before ripping off 10 total German suplexes on the way to the win.

The early barrage was everything fans could have asked for—and more:

After putting on perhaps the best comeback story in WWE history, Lesnar put an end to the run like he has many others, streak and otherwise.

With names like Finn Balor and Seth Rollins likely eyeing the title scene, not to mention the result mentioned below, Lesnar reassuming top-dog status was one of the best possible outcomes Sunday.

Roman Reigns Claims His Yard

Some might have argued a match with a belt at stake should have been the main event, but Roman Reigns and The Undertaker put on a show worthy of the final act to close the festivities in Orlando.

In what was likely the farewell to The Undertaker, Roman Reigns weathered a brutal storm, highlighted by a tombstone piledriver and assaults with a chair before taking the win.

Roman Reigns pulled out all the stops, even putting The Undertaker through a table before a final spear ended the historic matchup.

As legends of the business do, The Undertaker went out on his back, on his own terms. The fans paid one last WrestleMania farewell:

Roman Reigns moves on having claimed his yard, likely eying Brock Lesnar next. The goodbye to the Undertaker, though, was by far the best part of WrestleMania 33.
