Derrick Rose's Knee Injury a Torn Meniscus, PG out for Season

Rob GoldbergApr 2, 2017

New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn meniscus, the Knicks confirmed Sunday.

The team also announced Rose will need arthroscopic surgery. Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical first reported the news of the tear, adding Rose will need six to eight weeks to recover.

Rose was averaging 18.0 points and 4.4 assists per contest in his first season in New York.

The 28-year-old last appeared in a game Monday against the Detroit Pistons, scoring 27 points in a win. However, the team announced he would not play in the next game Wednesday due to what was described as a "sore left knee."

After the guard missed another game Friday, the Knicks have apparently realized the issue is more serious than a day-to-day injury.

The team has already been eliminated from the playoffs, and there are only six games left in the regular season, but there is obvious concern about Rose's future as he heads into free agency this summer.

Knee injuries have been a serious issue for him throughout his career. He has already undergone three significant knee surgeries, the first two of which limited him to just 49 games over the course of three years from 2011 to 2014.

Including this season, he hasn't appeared in more than 66 games since he won MVP in 2010-11.
