For the past several weeks, vignettes have aired on NXT programming featuring Black cutting cryptic promos about his arrival.

Black also hyped his first match on social media with tweets such as this one:

Just a couple of weeks prior to TakeOver, it was officially announced that Black would take on the red-hot Almas as part of the card.

A confident Black tweeted the following at Almas regarding the clash:

Black is a native of the Netherlands who made a huge name for himself on the independent wrestling scene as Tommy End.

The former martial artist and kickboxer competed in Evolve, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, Insane Championship Wrestling and several other promotions before signing with WWE in 2016.

Black faced Neville in a special-attraction match as part of the UK Championship tournament in January, and that turned out to be his final bout under the "Tommy End" name.

His first challenge in NXT was a stiff one, as Almas has made significant strides since losing to Roderick Strong at NXT TakeOver: San Antonio.

The Mexican Superstar has grown as a heel character and picked up wins over the likes of HoHo Lun and Oney Lorcan in the weeks prior to NXT TakeOver: Orlando.

WrestleMania season often leads to several main roster call-ups from NXT, which made Saturday's match highly important in terms of positioning moving forward.

Black was a huge favorite entering the match since it was his debut, and the fact that he won in impressive fashion suggests he could find himself in the NXT Championship hunt before long.
