Chelsea Transfer News: Tiemoue Bakayoko Wants PSG Move, According to His Brother

Christopher SimpsonMar 28, 2017

Tiemoue Bakayoko's brother has said the AS Monaco midfielder and reported Chelsea target would jump at the possibility of signing for Paris Saint-Germain.

Per RMC Sport (h/t ESPN FC's Jonathan Johnson), Soualio Bakayoko said:

"

When he was young, he wanted to go to PSG. He has always dreamed of PSG.

When I said to him, 'Imagine, one day, you sign for PSG,' he told me, 'I would really like that. If they offer me that, I do not see why I would refuse.' But he said, 'I have time. If I have to go to PSG, I will go, that is all.'

Chelsea are reportedly in hot pursuit of the 22-year-old:

France Football's Nabil Djellit (h/t Johnson) reported Arsenal are also interested in him, and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger met with Bakayoko last year to hold talks over a potential move.

The holding midfielder has enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Monaco this year, as noted by French football writer Rich Allen:

Bakayoko has helped the Ligue 1 side to top their domestic league and reach the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.

After Monaco beat Manchester City in the last 16 of the competition, football writer Matt Spiro picked out Bakayoko as one of their top stars who look set to leave the principality for an elite European side:

Indeed, it will be difficult for Monaco to keep hold of him and their other top talents after the season they've had.

Bakayoko is a powerful defensive midfielder who can dominate the centre of the park with his sheer physicality.

Like Chelsea's N'Golo Kante, he excels in reading the game and breaking up play, per OptaJean:

According to Squawka, he's also won 46 tackles and 48 headed duels this season. He's comfortable on the ball, too, as his 87 per cent passing accuracy and completion of 45 take-ons in Ligue 1 would suggest.

The Blues already have the formidable partnership of Kante and Nemanja Matic in front of their defence, but pairing the two French midfielders together would arguably make them an even stronger unit.

Chelsea have been nearly impenetrable since manager Antonio Conte made the decision to field Kante and Matic in front of a back three, and with the addition of Bakayoko, even the strongest attacking sides would have a tough time breaking them down.

He'd also make an outstanding capture for PSG or Arsenal—who are crying out for a player in his mouldbut it seems the French side might have a leg up on the Premier League duo.

The Blues may have to hope PSG pursue other targets.
