Manchester Recap

Van Barneveld and Van Gerwen were both quickly out of the traps with an electric pace, but it was Barney who edged the opening leg. MvG was finding it difficult to land the trebles, and the veteran doubled his lead at 2-0.

The crowd went wild as Van Barneveld missed double 12 to spurn the chance of a fabled televised nine-dart finish, but he claimed the third leg.

Barney was in majestic form as he racked up the maximums, rolling back the years to hurt his younger opponent. However, the world No. 1 flexed his muscles to grab a brace of legs and stage a comeback.

Van Barneveld's rhythm was affected by Mighty Mike's aggression, and in the blink of an eye, it was all level at 4-4 in a fascinating encounter.

Van Gerwen suffered a serious wobble that Barney punished with vigour, and he made it 6-4 to guarantee a point. Van Barneveld had double 16 to win the match, but he missed his mark, allowing his opponent to make it 6-5.

The veteran had the final word as MvG faltered again, and the night belonged to Barney as he sailed to the win.

Sky Sports Darts shared the winning darts:

Van Gerwen opened the night with a steady win against Wade, putting his foot on the accelerator towards the end of the match.

The world champion landed an average of 104.20 as he hit seven of his 23 attempts at doubles to finish.

Mighty Mike won the match 7-4 and, in the process, broke a world record before his defeat to Barney, per PDC Darts:

Taylor was forced to dig deep for victory after a bad run of results, and he overcame Wright as his opponent failed to deliver at the oche.

The Power skipped to a 6-3 lead to guarantee a point, but Snakebite rallied to worry the legendary figure.

Wright took two legs in a row to narrow the margin, but Taylor found a second wind to close out the contest.

Huybrechts was eliminated from the competition after falling to a 7-2 loss to Anderson.

The Flying Scotsman raced away to a 5-2 lead as his opponent struggled with his accuracy and pace.

Anderson fired a 136 checkout to take him one leg away from victory, and he made short work of the Hurricane as he crossed the finish line, extinguishing the Belgian's hopes.

The Scot's average of 101.86 was significantly stronger than his opponent's, and the former two-time world champion was a clear winner.

PDC shared the match stats:

Klaasen's injured wrist continued to hamper him in a scrappy fight with Lewis, and despite not being near his best, Jackpot collected a win by two clear legs.

The Cobra's action was clearly affected, but he stayed with Lewis in the early stage of battle.

However, Lewis was in control despite feeling the nerves, and he won 7-5.

Sky Sports Darts shared the ending:

Van Gerwen will feel the defeat to Barney, but he was second best to his countryman on the night.

Van Barneveld was lethal on the doubles and trebles, and his heavy scoring didn't allow the world champion any chance to take a breath and regroup.
