Mario Lemieux Sends Letter, Signed Hockey Puck to Child in Hospital

Andrew GouldMar 21, 2017

Mario Lemieux sent an unsolicited letter and signed hockey puck to a young girl hospitalized in Pittsburgh.

Colin Dunlap, a radio host on Pittsburgh's 93.7 The Fan, shared a note the Pittsburgh Penguins owner and NHL legend wrote to the host's five-year-old daughter, Darran, who has leukemia.

Lemieux, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in 1993, encouraged her to "fight and stay strong."

Months ago, Dunlap shared a video of Darran refusing help as she instead climbed up the stairs on her own:

She now has the support of one more prominent backer who can relate to her condition.
