Fabian Moreau to Redskins: Twitter Reacts as CB Is Selected in 2017 NFL Draft

Washington strengthened its secondary by selecting UCLA cornerback Fabian Moreau with the No. 81 overall pick in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft.

After Moreau came off the board, many reacted to his selection on Twitter:

Moreau enters the NFL with a great deal of experience under his belt, as he spent parts of five seasons with the Bruins.

Moreau did suffer a torn pectoral while preparing for the draft at the Bruins' pro-day workout, per Tony Pauline of DraftAnalyst.com, and is expected to be back at full strength in August.

While he is highly regarded for his physical tools, he never put up big numbers in the interception department with just three in his entire collegiate career.

Two of them came last season, along with 31 tackles and a career-high-tying eight passes defended.

Moreau may not be a ball hawk, but he can be a nightmare for opposing wide receivers in coverage, especially in the red zone, according to NFL Network's Ben Fennell:

The lack of interception numbers may have prevented Moreau from going even higher in the draft, but NFL Network draft guru Mike Mayock expressed his belief leading up to the draft that Moreau has what it takes to outperform his draft position, per NFL Network:

Moreau undoubtedly improved his stock at the NFL Scouting Combine, as he performed at an elite level in multiple drills.

He measured 6'0" and weighed in at 206 pounds, while putting up some of the best numbers at his position in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump, broad jump and 60-yard shuttle, according to NFL.com.

Per ESPN, only one defensive back managed to beat Moreau's blazing 40 time of 4.35 seconds:

Moreau's physical tools are obvious, but he doesn't come without some potential drawbacks.

According to NFL.com, an anonymous NFC West scout said the following about him during the build toward the draft: "He's big and strong but I just want him to play with more edge. He should be whipping and overwhelming some of these skinny receivers but he just lets them take too many liberties. I would want to bust their ass and let them know what's up early in the game."

Part of the perceived lack of physicality could be due to the fact that Moreau missed all but three games due to a foot injury in 2015.

Moreau proved he was healthy in 2016, though, and if he becomes a more well-rounded corner at the NFL level, he has the ability to be one of the best the 2017 class has to offer.

Washington is not messing around with its defense in this draft. Alabama defensive tackle Jonathan Allen fell into head coach Jay Gruden's lap with the 17th overall pick.

Moreau had the talent to be a first-round selection. His lack of production in college likely contributed to his wait in the draft, but Washington was able to find a potential starting cornerback if he comes back healthy later this year.
