Arsenal Transfer News: Hector Bellerin Latest, Berkay Ozcan Rumours

Tom SunderlandMar 16, 2017

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has shot down speculation linking Hector Bellerin with a move back to former club Barcelona after the defender signed a new contract at the Emirates Stadium last year.

Rumours abound that Barcelona are in the market to re-sign the player, who left their shores for north London in 2011, but Wenger isn't concerned about losing his star right-back, per Goal's Chris Wheatley:

The Mirror's Liam Prenderville also provided quotes from Wenger's press conference as the Frenchman added: "It’s very difficult to take these things seriously."

That same report cited sources in Spain that have said a £35 million deal could be in the works, and the math appears to match up given the Blaugrana's desire to recruit a successor to Dani Alves, who left the club last summer.

Sergi Roberto has deputised in the right-back role for most of this season, while Aleix Vidal dislocated his ankle in February and is set to miss almost all Barca's pre-season preparations for the next campaign.

The uncertainty over Wenger's future at the club is also thought to be playing a hand in recent transfer gossip, although Bellerin recently reassured ITV's Gabriel Clarke that he and his team-mates are behind their boss:

Bellerin spent eight years developing at Barca's La Masia academy before making the switch to England six years ago, and the Spain international has since established himself as one of the Premier League's finest full-backs.

However, many players might struggle to reject the advances of a club like Barcelona, particularly when the Catalan giants have a vacancy in their defence in need of filling.

That being said, with a little more than six years remaining on his Gunners contract, the Blaugrana may find it nigh impossible to convince Arsenal a sale is the right option, safe in the knowledge the player is tied to their future for some time.

Elsewhere, Arsenal are understood to be pursuing young Stuttgart talent Berkay Ozcan, whose agent, Baris Yukselsen, told Turkish-Football.com (h/t Mirror) that the Gunners are indeed monitoring his progress in Germany.

"Many top clubs are interested in Berkay," Yukselsen said. "Arsenal has Berkay on its list, but at the moment he is focusing on Stuttgart’s resurgence.”

Ozcan, 19, can play in attacking midfield or as a more centralised asset, and the teenager has already made his debut for Turkey's under-21 national team after impressing within the under-19 setup.

The Stuttgart starlet has scored three goals and collected four assists in 19 first-team appearances for the German second-tier outfit, helping his employers reach the summit as they look to return to the top flight.
