Manchester United have reportedly upped their interest in AS Monaco duo Kylian Mbappe and Tiemoue Bakayoko by sending top scout Marcel Bout to watch them in Wednesday's UEFA Champions League match with Manchester City.
That's according to Jeremy Cross of the Daily Star, with Bout watching both players find the net in Monaco's 3-1 win over City, which took them to the quarter-finals of the competition on away goals with a 6-6 aggregate score.
The pair have played key roles in helping Monaco top Ligue 1 this season as well as progress in Europe.
Squawka Football hailed Mbappe's impact on Wednesday and throughout the campaign:
The 18-year-old has had a sensational season, and he earned his first call-up to France's senior side on Thursday, as reported by the Mirror.
United could use more firepower this summer, as they lack a cutting edge if Zlatan Ibrahimovic is off the field or having a poor game, and Mbappe would be an excellent candidate to add that to the team.
He's also blessed with lightning pace, tremendous physicality and superb dribbling skills, and his performances this season have belied his tender years.
According to Sky Sports' Guillem Balague, Mbappe is hoping to stay put and develop his game further, but he may yet find himself on the move:
Agent Jorge Mendes also represents the likes of United manager Jose Mourinho and goalkeeper David De Gea, so if he were to gain Mbappe as a client, that could help United snap him up.
Meanwhile, Bakayoko also put in an outstanding effort on Wednesday, per Squawka Football:
As he demonstrated during the match, the midfielder excels at winning and distributing the ball well, and he's a confident dribbler, too, allowing him to shine in a box-to-box role.
Hesham Bilal-Hafiz of the Manchester Evening News believes he wouldn't be suited to replacing Michael Carrick at Old Trafford but could improve on Ander Herrera:
Bakayoko is in a different mould to Carrick, but he's an outstanding and mobile player who could nevertheless form a dynamic and powerful midfield three alongside Paul Pogba and Herrera.
Neither player will come cheap, and United will likely face plenty of competition this summer, but both would be excellent buys.
