Todd McShay NFL Mock Draft 2017: Notable Picks from ESPN Guru's 3rd Mock
ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay released his third mock for the first round of the 2017 NFL draft Wednesday. He projects the Cleveland Browns will select Texas A&M defensive lineman Myles Garrett to kick off the proceedings on April 27.

Notable Selections
5. Tennessee Titans: Jonathan Allen, DL, Alabama
Allen's stock is in limbo right now. After establishing himself as a potential top-three pick following two straight solid seasons with the Crimson Tide, questions are being raised about past shoulder problems and a lackluster combine performance.
Alabama team doctor Lyle Cain tried to downplay the shoulder concerns during an interview with Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network before the combine.
"Jonathan has really played without symptoms in his shoulders, and it's something that has not affected his performance or function," Cain said. "It doesn't have to be treated during the season. And he's had a couple of great years."
Allen failed to make an impact in Indianapolis, however, and his work during the Tide's pro day was pretty ordinary, as well. That's not to say a couple workouts should be worth more than two years of often terrific game tape, but failing to shine during the process can cause a prospect's stock to fall.
Bleacher Report's Matt Miller provided the latest update from his sources in early March:
While the defensive line is one area of need for the Titans, they must be confident Allen could become a game-changing player to use the fifth overall pick on him. The talent is there, but the amount of risk has risen since his college playing days came to an end.
16. Baltimore Ravens: John Ross, WR, Washington
Ross stole the spotlight at the combine by setting the new record in the 40-yard dash. Although everybody knew speed was his greatest asset, showing off such elite acceleration and quickness helped him move off the first-round fringe and into the middle of the round.
The NFL Network showcased his run into the record books:
The NFL noted Ross felt he could have still run faster:
Ross would be a welcome addition in Baltimore. The Ravens are in desperate need of another playmaker on the outside. They ranked 28th in yards per attempt through the air last season and they were one of three teams to average under 10 yards per catch, per ESPN.com.
His route-running still needs more polish and he'll need to become more comfortable making plays in traffic at the NFL level. But his explosiveness will make him a threat every time he steps on the field, and that's exactly what the Ravens offense needs right now.
25. Houston Texans: Mitchell Trubisky, QB, North Carolina
Seeing Trubisky this low is a little shock to the system. He's been the most common choice as the first quarterback off the board, though there's no consensus in a weak QB group, and falling to the bottom of Round 1 would mean the Cleveland Browns passed on him twice.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported in early March the Browns front office was "strongly considering" using the top overall selection on the Ohio native. The team also owns pick No. 12 should it decide to select Garrett or another prospect at No. 1.
Meanwhile, North Carolina head coach Larry Fedora told Cabot he's confident Trubisky can handle the responsibilities of being a franchise quarterback:
"Mitch Trubisky will be the face of somebody's organization and he will make them proud. He will never embarrass them. He's as solid a person as there is. He's the kind of person you would want to be the face of your organization and he's a program-changer. Somebody's going to be able to build around him and have that piece of the puzzle. And at that level, that piece of the puzzle is extremely important.
"
Landing with the Texans would be a solid alternative. He'd likely be given an opportunity to compete for the starting job right away unless the team acquires a veteran like Tony Romo in the coming weeks, and Houston already features a defense ready to contend.
Whether he'd actually still be available at No. 25 is up for debate, though. Every interested team would know the Texans are a potential landing spot and look to trade into the early 20s if he does slide on draft night. The Browns still feel like the most likely destination at this stage.
