Winter Storm Stella, which has blanketed much of the Atlantic Northeast with snow and ice, has caused the postponement of Syracuse's NIT opener against UNC Greensboro and the New Jersey Devils' matchup with the Winnipeg Jets.

Syracuse announced the game will be played Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET at the Carrier Dome. It was originally scheduled for Tuesday night.

The Devils will now host the Jets on March 28 at 7 p.m. ET. Their game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, and the team will honor original tickets sold to the event. Syracuse will also be carrying over ticket purchases.

The Iowa basketball team also announced its NIT matchup with South Dakota will be pushed back two hours due to Syracuse's postponement.

The National Weather Service issued blizzard warnings to nine states, and there have been some travel bans enacted—particularly in regard to flights. Up to two feet of snow is expected in some areas, while others have been coated with ice, hail and heavy wind.

It is unclear if any other sporting events will be affected by the storm. Buffalo is set to host NCAA tournament games Thursday and Saturday. Weather.com currently projects one-to-three inches of snow in Buffalo over the next 36 hours.
