Gianni VerschuerenMar 14, 2017

The final UEFA Champions League's round-of-16 fixtures will take place on Wednesday, as Machester City visit AS Monaco and Atletico Madrid play host to Bayer Leverkusen.

The Citizens will be favourites in their tie following the spectacular first leg at the Etihad Stadium, where manager Pep Guardiola and his troops beat their opponents 5-3.

Atletico are in an even better position, winning 4-2 in Germany to all but book their spot in the next round.

City and Monaco served up the most spectacular of the first legs of the round-of-16, combining for eight goals in a crazy match in Manchester, England.

The Ligue 1 side have impressed at the attacking end of the pitch all season long and likely won't hold back on Wednesday―throwing players forward is in their DNA, and they've been remarkably faithful to their identity in France so far.

Per City's official Twitter account, Guardiola will use a similar strategy, and we could be in for another spectacular match:

With Kamil Glik missing out due to suspension, there should be space for the visitors to exploit. The Poland international has been one of the top defenders in Ligue 1 this season―his absence is a real blow for Monaco.

The duo of Radamel Falcao and Kylian Mbappe should find plenty of success against City's mediocre back line, and for the latter, it will be a prime opportunity to wow the scouts and add to his transfer value ahead of the summer.

MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 21: Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero holds off the challenge of Kamil Glik during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 first leg match between Manchester City FC and AS Monaco at Etihad Stadium on February 21, 2017 in

Sergio Aguero has been in fine form of late and should continue his great run of matches, particularly with Glik not featuring. The match in Monaco should be another spectacular one, but with the two-goal advantage, City should advance.

So should Atletico, who scored four away goals in Germany and are in the perfect position heading into the second leg. The Spaniards will be without Filipe Luis and Gabi, who are both suspended, but their many absentees should not be an excuse.

Per the club's official Twitter account, Leverkusen will also be short-handed, with teenage starlet Kai Havertz sidelined for an odd reason:

Leverkusen face a real battle in the Bundesliga to earn a European ticket for next season, with Champions League qualification already seemingly impossible. In all likelihood, the Germans will rest a few key starters and prioritise domestic league fixtures, knowing a miracle comeback at the Estadio Vicente Calderon is implausible.
