Floyd Mayweather, Conor McGregor Don't Have Target Fight Date, Says Dana White

UFC President Dana White has denied rumours a target date is set for the proposed boxing match between reigning lightweight champion Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr.      

As TMZ Sports reported on Tuesday, in the last few days, reports surfaced the fight would be on June 10. White denied the speculation, however, saying, "There is no target date whatsoever."

Mayweather and McGregor have been trading jabs in the media regarding a potential bout for some time now, and speculation increased when the former announced he will come out of retirement to face the Irishman.

While Money gave some fans hope when he announced he was coming out of retirement, Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports warned his followers not to read too much into those comments:

The proposed superfight sounded like little more than a pipe dream when speculation first surfaced, and despite a barrage of comments from both fighters, they've barely edged any closer to a bout since then.

Mayweather hasn't fought since 2015, when he beat Andre Berto by unanimous decision to take his professional record to 49-0. He shares honours for the sport's best undefeated record with Rocky Marciano.

McGregor has never participated in a professional boxing match, and while he's known as a fearsome striker in MMA, he would clearly be at a disadvantage in the ring.

The Notorious hasn't shied away from major challenges, however. He became the UFC's first fighter to hold championship belts in two divisions with a win over Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November, having previously won the featherweight title from Jose Aldo.

A boxing match against Mayweather could be lucrative for the 28-year-old, who is the UFC's most popular star. Even in retirement, Money remains the biggest name in combat sports and a huge PPV draw.

McGregor has options in the UFC should the fight fail to materialise, but none of those options would be as lucrative as the chance to hand Money his first loss as a professional―even if such an outcome would be unlikely.
