FA Cup Draw 2017 Schedule: Semi-Final Fixtures and Dates Released

James DudkoMar 13, 2017

Chelsea will play a London derby against Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final of the 2017 FA Cup, while Arsenal will face Manchester City in the all-Premier League draw for the last four.

The BBC Match of the Day Twitter feed confirmed both ties, while also detailing how the semi-final matches will be played on Saturday, April 22 and Sunday, April 23:

Both ties are equally intriguing but for different reasons. For Tottenham, this semi-final is a chance for revenge after Chelsea humiliated them 5-1 at this same stage back in 2012.

Chelsea went on to lift the cup that year as half of a double along with the UEFA Champions League trophy. This time, the Blues are also chasing a double, with the Premier League title all but in the bag thanks to a 10-point lead at the top.

However, another Chelsea win at Wembley shouldn't be taken for granted, especially since Spurs have already proved they can beat the Blues. Tottenham did a number on manager Antonio Conte's Blues during a 2-0 win in the league in early January.

Spurs' biggest worry will be whether star striker Harry Kane is fit in time to feature in the semi-final. Kane is suffering from an injured ankle so swollen Tottenham have delayed a vital scan of the problem, according to Sky Sports.

Sam Long of the London Evening Standard is already counting the days for Kane's potential recovery:

The other semi-final will pit two of football's ultimate purists against one another in Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

Both men are faithful to an attractive and expansive style of play based on keeping the ball on the deck and moving it at pace between the lines. Yet it's Wenger who will enter the game under the greater pressure, amid fan protests and declining form both in the league and Europe.

Wenger's problems could be compounded by a fixture congestion created by this draw, one detailed by the London Evening Standard's James Benge:

Wenger has won this trophy six times, but he will need to get creative with how he balances his squad around a competition he can scarcely afford not to win on a record seventh occasion.

By contrast, Guardiola's work is starting to bear fruit with City. His willingness to overload his starting lineups with attack-minded players has made City a free-scoring force Arsenal should fear ahead of their Wembley meeting.

James Robson of the Manchester Evening News believes the Citizens will have welcomed being drawn against the struggling Gunners instead of a rampant Chelsea:

Arsenal will get the chance to prove City have cause for concern, though, when they host the Manchester club at the Emirates Stadium in a dress rehearsal in the Premier League on Sunday, April 2.

Wenger needs one more trophy while Guardiola has admitted he needs to win silverware immediately to be considered a success in Manchester, per David Anderson of the Daily Mirror: “I know we will be judged on the titles we win. I know that. No silverware - it will not be a good season. I knew that in August."

Yet the Gunners have won this trophy twice in the last three years and could ensure Wenger appeases a few critics, albeit briefly.
