Manchester City Transfer News: Joshua Kimmich Boost, Latest Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenMar 12, 2017

Bayern Munich starlet and reported Manchester City target Joshua Kimmich has spoken out over his lack of minutes in Bavaria, while the Citizens are reportedly scouting Bayer Leverkusen full-back Benjamin Henrichs.

As reported by Alex Richards of the Daily Mirror, Kimmich, a central midfielder who can also play as a full-back, didn't mince his words when he talked about the lack of chances he's getting under manager Carlo Ancelotti:

"

It does not matter whether I understand it or not. The fact is I'm not satisfied with it and I want to change it.

The coach knows I can play as a number six and at right-back, also in the centre of defence. From that he has many options to use me. I know my weaknesses and work on them – especially when I'm not playing, I try to do more. In the Bundesliga we have a good lead now and maybe [the team] will be rotated.

Per the report, the 22-year-old has barely left the bench of late and has only played two full matches since late October.

Kimmich was a favourite of City manager Pep Guardiola, who convinced the youngster to move to the club from RB Leipzig in 2015. He was a regular last season and earned a spot in Germany's starting XI for Euro 2016.

The versatile youngster isn't expected to leave the Allianz Arena this summer, with Xabi Alonso and Philipp Lahm both announcing they won't be at the club next season, per Richards. Bayern will likely ask Kimmich to replace one of the two in the starting XI―sports writer Shane Burns questioned the timing of his comments:

His good working relationship with Guardiola and versatility to play as a full-back could lead to a significant offer from the Citizens, however, and Bayern could opt to cash in if Ancelotti continues to keep him on the bench.

Per Richards, RB Leipzig star Naby Keita is a favourite to replace Alonso in midfield, so the Bavarians may have no need for Kimmich next season. Here's a look at some of Kimmich's highlights:

Another candidate to move to the Premier League is Henrichs, Leverkusen's breakout star in defence.

According to Paul Hetherington of the Daily Star, City have been scouting the full-back regularly and will do so again on Wednesday, when the Germans face Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.

Henrichs has established himself as one of Germany's top young talents after breaking into Bayer's senior squad last season. While he was mostly used as an attacking midfielder during his youth days―and projected as a future star at that position―Leverkusen played him in defence, and the results were astonishing.

Here's a look at some of his highlights:

Leverkusen reportedly want at least £20 million for Henrichs, and it's hard to blame them. The speedster is barely out of his teens but already a regular for a Champions League club and a full Germany international.

He would be the perfect answer to City's full-back woes and fit Guardiola's youth movement. City have the funds to make this transfer happen, even if Leverkusen hold out for a higher fee.
