Chelsea vs. Manchester United: Antonio Conte's Key FA Cup Presser Comments

Matt JonesMar 10, 2017

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has insisted he won't be toning down any of his trademark celebrations ahead of his team's FA Cup clash with Jose Mourinho's Manchester United on Monday.

The Blues will come up against the Red Devils in the last eight of the competition at Stamford Bridge, where they previously beat United 4-0 in the Premier League last October. After that encounter, Mourinho is reported to have said that an animated Conte "humiliated" him with his conduct on the sidelines.

Nevertheless, the Blues chief was adamant he won't be going out of his way to be more reserved when they come face to face again, per Liam Twomey of ESPN FC:

He also revealed he has not spoken with Mourinho since their exchange at the end of the previous Premier League meeting:

As we can see here courtesy of the Chelsea Twitter feed, the Italian didn't want to stay on the topic of goal celebrations for too long:

Chelsea captain John Terry, who has been on the fringes of the Chelsea team this season, was also discussed during the press conference.

Conte was asked about the future of his skipper, whose contract with the club is set to expire at the end of the season. But he was giving little away about whether he'd be with the Blues next year:

When asked if Terry would start the match against Manchester United, Conte insisted he has yet to make his mind up as to who will feature:

The Chelsea manager also commented on the predicament of the manager of London rivals Arsenal, Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners were dumped out of the UEFA Champions League in midweek by Bayern Munich, losing both legs by a 5-1 scoreline. Ahead of the game, there were protests from some sections of the Arsenal fanbase, who want Wenger to leave the club at the end of the season when his contract runs out.

Conte offered his backing to the Frenchman, insisting that consistent qualification for the Champions League in a division so competitive is a superb achievement:

The Italian was also quizzed on his own future. It was reported by Sky Sports this week that the Blues boss was close to signing a new contract, with the Chelsea boss said to have other admirers.

However, Conte revealed his focus is not extending beyond Monday's match with the Red Devils:

With Chelsea in a strong league position, talk is beginning to gather pace about a possible double, too, a feat the club have only achieved once before, in the 2009-10 season. Conte insisted there is still a long way for his team to go, though:

Chelsea's stunning form in the Premier League means there has not been too much focus on the FA Cup from a Blues perspective. But with a home tie in the quarter-finals, Conte's men are in an excellent position to achieve what would be a remarkable double success come the end of the 2016-17 season.

United will have some bad memories from their 4-0 loss at Stamford Bridge earlier in the season and may be a little jaded following their jaunt to Russia in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday to face Rostov. If Conte's men continue to operate with their trademark ruthlessness, they can expose those frailties.
