Big 12 Tournament 2017: Semifinals Schedule, Live Stream, Bracket Predictions

Paul KasabianMar 10, 2017

The Big 12 men's basketball tournament has proven to be the most chaotic conference playoff this season, as the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds went down before the semifinals.

The rest of the tournament should prove interesting as No. 6 Kansas State and No. 8 TCU look to continue their underdog runs to the championship.

Below you'll find the Big 12 tournament schedule, television and live-stream information as well as some semifinal predictions.

Semifinal Predictions

No. 8 TCU vs. No. 4 Iowa State

The Horned Frogs took full advantage of Kansas freshman star Josh Jackson's suspension Thursday, as five players scored in double figures in an 85-82 win over the Jayhawks. TCU also benefitted from Kansas' short bench, outscoring the Jayhawks 34-3.

That won't be the case on Friday, however. ISU has a deep bench, as nine players average at least 12 minutes per game. The Cyclones are a great and experienced small-ball team, as four senior guards start for ISU. Each averages no fewer than 12 points and 29 minutes per game and is capable of leading the team in scoring on any given night.

The star of the ISU show, however, is point guard Monte Morris, who put up 21 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists in a 92-83 quarterfinal win over Oklahoma State on Thursday. For the season, he averages 16.2 points and 6.2 assists per contest.

Jeff Borzello of ESPN posted this eye-popping stat about Morris on Thursday:

TCU and ISU split their season series, but take the hot Cyclones, who have won seven of their last eight games, to beat the Horned Frogs on Friday.

Pick: Iowa State

No. 2 West Virginia vs. No. 6 Kansas State

Kansas State strengthened its case for an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament (should it not earn an automatic bid by winning the Big 12) by beating Baylor 70-64 on Thursday behind 21 points from sophomore guard Barry Brown. Most impressively, the Wildcats held star Baylor big man Johnathan Motley to just 13 points and seven rebounds (he averages 17.5 points and 10 boards for the year).

K-State is on the outside looking in at the NCAA tournament field, according to ESPN's Joe Lunardi, but Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report believes that win against Baylor led to the Wildcats sneaking into the field.

Beating West Virginia would all but seal an at-large bid for Kansas State prior to the Big 12 championship game, so the Mountaineers need to be wary of the desperate Wildcats as they fight for their tournament lives.

That being said, WVU is one of the best teams in the nation. The Mountaineers crushed Kansas 85-69 with Jackson on the floor in Morgantown earlier this season and also rank fourth overall in the Pomeroy College Basketball rankings.

Furthermore, they have junior point guard Jevon Carter, who might be the best individual defender in the country. Carter averages 2.7 steals per game and leads a WVU team that is No. 1 in steals per game (10.9) in all of Division I. He also willed WVU to victory over Texas, as he scored 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting. The rest of his team combined for only 42 points on 16-of-42 shooting, with no one scoring more than eight.

College basketball analyst Jon Rothstein had this to say about Carter on February 28:

Carter will be too much for the Wildcats to handle, but expect K-State to make the NCAA tournament field anyway after its impressive win over Baylor.

Pick: West Virginia
