Carmelo Anthony out vs. Trail Blazers with Knee Injury

Alec NathanMar 23, 2017

New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony will miss Thursday night's game against the Portland Trail Blazers with a sore left knee, according to the team's public relations department

Anthony has largely been healthy during the Knicks' tumultuous 2016-17 season, but he did miss a game on March 6 against the Orlando Magic due to a sore left knee.

When healthy, Anthony has maintained his status as one of the NBA's premier scorers. In 69 appearances so far this season, the 10-time All-Star is averaging 22.7 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 43.5 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from three.

Furthermore, the Knicks have posted an offensive rating of 105.8 with Anthony on the court, according to NBA.com's lineup data. Conversely, that mark drops to 103.2 when Anthony is on the bench.

In other words, the Knicks aren't going to replace Melo's scoring prowess easily so long as he's on the shelf.

Look for Justin Holiday and Courtney Lee to do the heavy lifting on the perimeter until Anthony's back at full strength.
