WWE WrestleMania 33: Full Match Card Predictions After Fastlane 2017
For Kevin Owens, the path to WWE WrestleMania 33 couldn't be more obvious after Sunday's FastlaneĀ pay-per-view.
The former universal champ saw his reign crumble in seconds thanks to Chris Jericho diverting his attention in the midst of his title bout with Goldberg. Owens will undoubtedly be seething after theĀ Raw-exclusive event, desperate to get his hands on his former friend.
KO is certain to take on Jericho on April 2, when WrestleMania 33 unfolds inĀ Orlando, Florida.
Following Fastlane, a number of other matches look to be locks for The Show of Shows. In other cases, though, populous championship pictures make it harder to project what's ahead.
Storyline analysis and breaking down foreshadowing from Fastlane, Raw, SmackDown and elsewhere help construct the lineup for WrestleMania.
Roman Reigns vs. Undertaker
1 of 11Roman Reigns felled Braun Strowman in decisive fashion at Fastlane.
Billed as a collision of monsters, Reigns vs. Strowman now looks to have been The Big Dog's WrestleMania warm-up. Defeating the giant gives Reigns tons of momentum. And the clear-cut victory he earned on Sunday suggests their rivalry is done.
That makes sense if WWE's plan is to then pit Reigns against Undertaker.
The company planted seeds for that bout during the Royal Rumble when Reigns ousted Undertaker from the 30-man match. Their staredown that night felt like a precursor to something bigger.Ā That's set to be true as Reigns is now in perfect position to battle The Deadman.Ā
With John Cena busy elsewhere and Undertaker without a rival, signs are pointing to Reigns vs. Undertaker in Orlando.
AJ Styles vs. Shane McMahon
2 of 11AJ Styles is one win away from securing a WWE Championship match at WrestleMania, but no one other than him expects that to happen.
WWE has heavily foreshadowed a showdown between Styles and SmackDown commissioner Shane McMahon. The Phenomenal One berated Shane O'Mac duringĀ his No. 1 Contender's match against Luke Harper on Feb. 28. McMahon reversed the decision of the match after noting that Harper's foot was on the ropes during the final pin. Styles was livid.
Styles later confronted McMahon on Talking Smack that night.
As much as many fans were hoping Styles would face someone who could hang with him in the ring, all this points to a clash with McMahon. That will give The Phenomenal One a high-profile match at WrestleMania, even if it will be more spectacle than classic.
Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho (United States Championship)
3 of 11Owens will fall from the Universal Championship picture after Sunday's PPV as he focuses on personal issues instead.
Jericho played a major part in Owens' title loss at Fastlane.Ā KO's former best friend emerged during the bout and distracted him just long enough for Goldberg to hit a match-ending spear.Ā
Owens will undoubtedly seek revenge, just as Jericho will be hungry for vengeance after KO blasted his head through a sign for the Festival of Friendship.Ā
That attack burned their friendship to the ground. Jericho was trying to express his gratitude to his buddy when Owens snapped.
The long-awaited rivalry between BFFs is now on the way.
Cruiserweight Championship Ladder Match
4 of 11For the past two years, WrestleMania has hosted a ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship match, but it could be time for the cruiserweights to take over that tradition.
Intercontinental champ Dean Ambrose is in the midst of a one-on-one feud with Baron Corbin. Unless that title scene gets crowded in a hurry, it looks like the IC match will avoid the ladder match treatment.Ā
The cruiserweights could certainly use a stipulation like that, though.Ā
Champion Neville isn't entrenched in a feud right now. He's made a number of enemies as champion. Rather than him take on Rich Swann or Jack Gallagher in singles competition, WWE is likely to try to showcase the division as a whole.
A ladder match would allow WWE to throw Akira Tozawa, Brian Kendrick and others into the mix. Plus, all those high-flyers are sure to do something special within the confines of a ladder match.Ā
The Miz and Maryse vs. John Cena and Nikki Bella
5 of 11At the Elimination Chamber PPV, the hints of a clash featuring John Cena and Nikki Bella against The Miz and Maryse were subtle. Cena eliminated The Miz from the main event bout. Bella inadvertently bumped into Maryse backstage.
Since then, subtlety has been replaced with a clear and obvious march toward that mixed tag team bout.
Cena and The Miz bickered on last week's SmackDown. Bella later came out and chased off Maryse. The stage for that collision is now set.
Cean and The Miz will revisit their WrestleMania XXVII match, only with their partners at their side this time.
Bayley vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Nia Jax vs. Sasha Banks (Raw Women's Title)
6 of 11Bayley beat Charlotte Flair at Fastlane, but with a giant-sized asterisk next to the victory.
For the second time in a row, Sasha Banks aided Bayley in taking down The Queen. Banks interfered on Bayley's behalf, sticking it to her old rival in the process.Ā
Before that, The Boss angered Nia Jax by beating her with a roll-up.
It's clear that Jax is not done chasing Banks. It's clear Banks and Flair will continue to clash, and Bayley and Banks' relationship is poised to evolve in some way.Ā
All those subplots will provide the foundation for a Fatal 4-Way title match at WrestleMania.
Going that route will allow WWE not to have to choose between which of those four women to showcase. The bulk of the Raw women's division will be on center stage, and WWE won't have to repeat a bout we've seen several times over like Banks vs. Flair.
Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
7 of 11For three straight years, WWE has shoved its midcarders into a single space at WrestleMania with the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.
There's no reason to believe that tradition will end anytime soon. There are a ton of Superstars in need of a WrestleMania spot and not nearly enough room to give them all their own stories and matches. Cesaro, Rusev, Strowman and Dolph Ziggler are among those likely to be a part of the Battle Royal.
Rusev spent Fastlane breaking up with Jinder Mahal and losing to Big Show. StrowmanĀ needs direction after falling to Reigns at the PPV. Ziggler's current rivalry with Kalisto and Apollo Crews isn't worthy of its own spot at WrestleMania.
That's where the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal comes in, allowing WWE to put its full roster to work.
Dean Ambrose vs. Baron Corbin (Intercontinental Championship)
8 of 11Corbin and Ambrose are on a clear collision course ahead of WrestleMania.
After the intercontinental champion pinned him during February's Elimination Chamber match, Corbin lost his mind. He battered Ambrose inside the steel structure as payback.
The Lunatic Fringe wasn't about to let that slide. On the Feb. 28 SmackDown, Ambrose called out Corbin. The Lone Wolf chose to keep his distance for now, threatening the champ from backstage.Ā
Expect the bad blood to worsen between these two in a hurry, culminating in the match of Corbin's young career.Ā
Big Show vs. Shaquille O'Neal
9 of 11WWE has been teasing this meeting of big men since last year when former NBA great Shaquille O'Neal entered the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32 and locked horns with Big Show.
Big Show has brought up the potential bout a number of times. And WWE has recently looked to make The World's Largest Athlete flush with momentum.
He is fresh off chokeslamming his way to a win over Rusev at Fastlane. That followed him defeating The Shining Stars on last Monday's Raw and going toe-to-toe with Strowman before that.
The match may be in jeopardy, though. As TMZ SportsĀ pointed out, O'Neal mentioned on his Big Podcast with ShaqĀ podcast that the possibility of him clashing with Big Show is "not looking good."
Still, WWE has a few weeks to square things away. Big Show won't be around much longer, and the company is likely antsy to do this as a means to add a celebrity to the card.
Championship Scramble for SmackDown Women's Title
10 of 11Uncertainty lingers over the SmackDown women's division situation.
It's not clear if Naomi's knee injury will heal in time for her to take on Alexa Bliss at WrestleMania. Bliss is in a rivalry of sorts with Becky Lynch, but The Irish Lass Kicker is busy with Mickie James.Ā Natalya has expressed interest in challenging Bliss, as well.
AsĀ Marc Normandin of Cageside Seats wrote: "It certainly feels like we're going to get a multi-woman stipulation all the same."
WWE can't go with a Fatal 4-Way if that's the direction Raw takes with its women's division. And if either the IC or cruiserweight titles go the way of a ladder match at WrestleMania, that scratches another option off the list.Ā
A Championship Scramble isn't a great option in terms of quality, but it's the kind of bout we've seen from SmackDown of late when a title scene is overflowing.
Seth Rollins vs. Triple H
11 of 11An injured knee may keep Seth Rollins out of WrestleMania for the second year, but the focus WWE has given his pursuit of Triple H suggests that the company is confident he can be healthy in time.
Rollins announced on the Feb. 27 Raw that he was unsure if he would be medically cleared before WrestleMania. At the same time, Triple H came out to confront him, threatening to sic Samoa Joe on him.Ā WWE also aired a promo video recapping their rivalry at Fastlane.
That suggests that the Rollins-Triple H match is in play, even if it remains tentative.
Finn Balor could always take Rollins' spot if needed. Otherwise, WWE may choose to insert the returning Balor into this story as a surprise.
How Joe will fit into all of this is unclear. He seems to be a backup option, relegated to the fringe of this narrative until Rollins' health is more certain.
As much as WWE has to be frustrated regarding Rollins' knee, the situation sure beats last year where Cena, Rollins, Cesaro, Orton, Wyatt, Neville and Luke Harper were all on the disabled list ahead of The Showcase of the Immortals.
